Government bloopers Incorrect or misleading advice from councils and government.

There is a lot of incorrect information about ragwort and the law on the internet. Sometimes even local council websites get it wrong. The false information says that the law obliges all landowners to control ragwort. This is not so. There are two pieces of legislation the Weeds Act and the Ragwort Control Act. The Weeds Act says that you may be ordered to control certain weeds. There is no obligation on anyone to order you to control them and in the absence of an order there is no obligation for you to do anything. The Ragwort Control Act merely says that the government should produce a code of practice for control. It places no obligations on the public at all. And the code of practice clearly says that ragwort doesn't need to be controled everywhere.
